Tucked into the woods on Wisp Mountain, Camp Kindred is a five-bedroom Deep Creek Lake retreat made for gathering with your people. Four private king suites give everyone room to settle in, while the fifth bedroom pairs two ground-level queen beds with an adjoining bath making it every bit as comfortable for adults as it is fun for younger campers.
Days here have a way of unfolding from backyard disc golf to hammock hangs, long dinners to hot-tub soaks, records spinning to late nights around the fire. Playful art, vintage camp references and unexpected little discoveries make the house feel less like a vacation rental and more like a place with a story.

Camp Kindred began with a simple idea: the best trips aren't really about where you sleep. They're about what happens when your favorite people finally have enough time and space to be together.
Tucked into the woods on Wisp Mountain near Deep Creek Lake, Kindred was created for exactly that. Families spanning a few generations. Old friends who don't see each other nearly enough. Chosen family. Dogs very much included.
A house that works for a real group
Five bedrooms give everyone room to spread out. Four private king suites each have their own bath. The fifth bedroom has two ground-level queen beds and an adjoining bath, so it works just as well for two adults who want real beds and privacy as it does for younger campers who want to claim the room as their own.
At the center of it all is a kitchen made for actually cooking together, with double ovens and plenty of room for the kind of breakfast that somehow stretches into lunch. There are gathering spaces when everyone wants to pile in together and quieter corners when they don't.
Take play seriously. Just not yourselves.
Camp Kindred borrows from the summer camps we remember without trying to recreate one.
Play a round of disc golf in the backyard. Start a board game tournament. Put a record on. Sink into the hot tub after a day at Wisp. Wander outside with coffee and watch for deer moving through the woods. Stay around the fire longer than you meant to.
And look around.
Kindred is deliberately full of things worth noticing. Vintage camp references. Colorful glassware. Collected books and games. Quirky artwork. Small surprises tucked throughout the house. Some are nostalgic. Some are beautiful. Some are strange in exactly the right way.
Nothing was chosen to make Kindred look like every other vacation house. It's meant to feel collected, personal and a little unexpected.
Deep Creek... our way
Camp Kindred is close enough to make the most of Deep Creek Lake and Wisp, but tucked away enough that coming home feels like part of the trip.
Ski or snow tube at Wisp. Hike beneath the waterfalls at Swallow Falls. Spend a summer afternoon on the lake. Chase fall color. Find a local bakery, cider mill or shop you didn't plan on visiting. Then come back to the woods, put on something comfortable and decide whether the night calls for the hot tub, a game or absolutely nothing.
Because around here, a rainy afternoon doesn't ruin the vacation. Neither does an evening with no reservation.
For the kin who gather
Sometimes that's three generations around the same table. Sometimes it's the friends you've known since college finally getting everyone in the same place. Sometimes the dogs outnumber the kids.
Somewhere between the big outings and the small rituals, something happens. Pancakes in the kitchen. Competitive games that get slightly out of hand. Wet towels after the hot tub. One more drink, one more record, one more story around the fire.

Where you'll be
Camp Kindred sits tucked into the woods on Wisp Mountain in McHenry, Maryland, close to the heart of Deep Creek Lake but removed from the busier lakefront areas.
This is the Deep Creek we love. Deer wander through the neighborhood. Wisp Resort is just down the mountain. Summer days can start on the lake and end around the fire. Fall brings winding roads, cider and some spectacular color. In winter, you're minutes from skiing and snow tubing, but coming home still feels quiet.
Deep Creek Lake State Park and Swallow Falls State Park are easy outings, along with the restaurants, shops, marinas and local spots scattered around McHenry and the lake. We especially love the places with a little personality, and you'll find plenty of our favorites in the Camp Kindred guide when you arrive.
Kindred isn't isolated, but it doesn't feel like you're staying in the middle of a resort either. That's part of the magic.
Getting around
You'll want a car at Camp Kindred. Deep Creek Lake is spread out, and driving is part of getting around the mountain and lake.
Wisp Main Lodge is about 8 minutes away, groceries about 10 minutes, Honi-Honi about 15 minutes, and Deep Creek Lake State Park about 22 minutes from the house. Restaurants, marinas, hiking, skiing and other Deep Creek favorites are all within an easy drive.
Mountain roads are part of the experience here. In winter, snow and ice can change conditions quickly, so an AWD or 4WD vehicle is a smart choice when winter weather is in the forecast.
Once you're home for the evening, though, our favorite transportation is considerably simpler: slippers.
